Intermodal transportation in Northeast Florida is a tremendous asset to companies looking to get their goods on the move throughout the Southeast. Blount Island Marine Terminal is one of several key deep-water ports in the region. Owned and operated by the Jacksonville Port Authority, Blount Island is the future home to Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (M.O.L.). Arguably the most important business announcement for the continued success of the region, M.O.L., one of the world’s largest multimodal transportation companies, signed a 30-year land lease with JAXPORT. The agreement is giving birth to a new 158-acre cargo terminal, a $200 million project that will begin operations in early 2008 and expand container-handling capacity by 800,000 TEUs annually by 2011 and open up Northeast Florida to trade with Asia. |
